Overview:

UK registered charity Chora Chori are looking for a coding specialist to develop a flight carbon offset calculator for embedding in a new website. Users will be invited to make offset payments towards a selection of the Charity’s projects aimed at protecting and regenerating the natural environment in Nepal. Chora Chori would be grateful for the pro bono assistance of a coding specialist.

About Chora Chori:

The UK registered Chora Chori charity saves children in Nepal who have experienced violence including child rape. The Charity helps victims with managing trauma and works towards bringing child rapists to justice.

Project Background:

The Climate Emergency is already hitting Nepal hard with receding glaciers, floods and changing weather patterns having a devastating  impact on daily life, especially within the poorest communities.

As a result, Chora Chori are now extending their activities to raise funds towards mitigating the impact of climate change by asking site visitors to make carbon offset payments proportionate to their flights to Nepal. The offset payments will in turn benefit one the Charity’s carefully selected projects aimed at protecting the natural environment for visitors to enjoy for generations to come.

One of the first projects to come to light is working with the authorities and local communities to conserve 360 hectares of protected forest in south Nepal, restoring 110 hectares with native tree planting over the next four years.

Scope of Work:

• Develop a flight carbon offset calculator for a new website pertaining to the Chora Chori charity (the site is not yet active as it is in development).
• The flight carbon offset calculator can be kept simple. For example:

• Note that I have attached the myclimate.org documentation which provides details of the formula which has been used for the calculator on their site.
• User to be able to change currency (major currencies suffice)
• Once calculator submits results, user is invited to choose an environmental project first and secondly make an offset payment (donation link will be provided).
