Our mission at Heifer International is to work with communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth. For over 70 years, we have created and implemented programs in nearly 125 countries that empower small scale farmers to achieve socially, economically, and environmentally secure livelihoods.
One of the biggest challenges that we face as an international organization based in the United States is a way to effectively engage our partners in our mission. Since domestic volunteer opportunities are not widespread, we have been in the works of planning an app that will serve as a platform for community engagement for our corporate partners- we just need help developing the technology! The concept behind the app can be thought of as “walk across Heifer.” Partners can choose a country in which Heifer is currently operating that correlates to the size of their employee base. [For example, a large company can choose India.] Then, their employees can collectively participate in a wellness/walking type program; for each specific number of steps, they can reach a new milestone. These achievements would encapsulate something along the lines of an overview of a project that Heifer is currently involved in, a personal testimony from a beneficiary, or interesting fact related to the country in which the employee team is registered.
